RAINN Disappointed with DeVos Title IX Decision

We are deeply disappointed in the decision to rescind existing policies on campus sexual violence, as announced by Sec. DeVos today. Sexual assault prevention and response on campus is critical to ending sexual violence. The secretary previously announced a plan to reconsider policies through a process of public input. Today’s decision to change the rules before the public has a chance to provide this input will create confusion for colleges and risk protections for victims. The Department of Education has a responsibility to ensure we do not move backward and to protect victims' rights under existing law. RAINN will continue its work to prevent sexual violence on campus and support victims.

The rape kit backlog is currently one of the biggest obstacles to prosecuting perpetrators of sexual violence.
