RAINN President and Founder Scott Berkowitz Quoted in DNA Bill Article

September 8, 2005 — Scott Berkowitz is quoted in USA Today criticizing a Senate proposal to cut nearly 50 percent of the budget requested by the White House for the funding of DNA tests on evidence from rapes and other unsolved crimes. The funding cut would undermine the Debbie Smith Act, which authorized $177 million in FY06 for DNA analysis of evidence from about 250,000 unsolved rape cases. RAINN helped lead passage of the DNA law, which was signed by President Bush in October 2004. The budget passed by the House provides full funding for the DNA testing.
