March, 2, 2006 - (Washington, D.C.) – RAINN recently added Evelyn Fortier to its executive management team as director of public policy. Fortier, most recently legislative director to U.S. Senator David Vitter (R-LA), brings more than 10 years of Capitol Hill experience to the organization.

Fortier’s professional and academic qualifications will enable her to develop a legislative agenda that advances RAINN’s goals of preventing sexual assault and responding to victims’ needs. She has considerable knowledge of crime policy, having authored several successful crime bills that were introduced by Antitrust Subcommittee Chairman Mike DeWine during her tenure as counsel to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee.

Prior to joining RAINN, Fortier served as a senior aide and committee counsel to several U.S. senators. She also has served as general counsel to former U.S. Senator Peter Fitzgerald (R-IL) and counsel to former U.S. Senator Bob Smith (R-NH).

An attorney by training, Fortier also has experience in defending complex litigation; she practiced for several years with large law firms. Fortier earned her bachelor's degree in government, magna cum laude, from Harvard University and her law degree from the University of Virginia. She lives with her husband, AEI research fellow John Fortier, and two children, in Arlington, VA.
