#ProudPSUforRAINN Continues to Raise Money for Victims

In the wake of the recent events at Penn State University, a grassroots network of PSU alumni decided to stand up for victims of sexual abuse by supporting RAINN's efforts to prevent and treat victims of sexual abuse. In an astonishing display of Penn State pride the #ProudPSUforRAINN campaign reached its goal of raising $500,000 for RAINN. In less than one month, thousands of Penn Staters and supporters from all over the country joined together to help victims of sexual assault and to ensure something like this never happens again — anywhere.

"After having so closely identified with all things Penn State over the past 15 years, the recent events have shaken our beliefs – and those of other alumni – to the core. Simply put, Penn State is way bigger than the alleged actions of a few people. To honor the victims, our goal is to raise over $500,000 – one dollar for each of Penn State's 557,000 alumni. Please join us in showing the world what being a proud supporter of Penn State really means by making a donation in support of preventing and treating victims of sexual abuse and by adding your name to mine below."
— Jerry & Jaime Needel, Bob Troia and Larena Lettow – Penn State '98

Donations from the #ProudPSUforRAINN campaign directly benefit RAINN's prevention and education initiatives and provide support for those affected by this crime through the National Sexual Assault Online Hotline (online.rainn.org), which has experienced a 54% increase since the Penn State story broke. The National Sexual Assault Online Hotline helps victims and survivors nation-wide receive the support they need and deserve.

The #ProudPSUforRAINN campaign has received nation-wide support and continues to grow. As a result of the campaign, RAINN hotline staff have helped survivors from around the country (men and women, boys and girls), who were encouraged to get help for the very first time. Since 1994, RAINN's hotlines have provided free, confidential support to help more than 1.5 million survivors take the first steps towards recovery.
