OHL Internship: How To Apply

Potential interns must submit the following:
  1. A cover letter
    • Please indicate whether you are applying for a full or part-time position
    • Please indicate the dates you are interested in interning
  2. A current resume
  3. Three professional references
  4. A writing sample (1-3 pages)

*If your application is accepted, this internship requires a criminal background check (done through RAINN at no cost to you, completed after your application is approved).

Deadline for Spring Internship: December 1
Deadline for Summer Internship: April 15
Deadline for Fall Internship: August 15

Full-time: 35 hrs/week
Part-time: 15 hrs/week


  • Be on time for shifts scheduled using the Online Hotline website
  • Complete 40 hours of Crisis Intervention Training
  • Follow computer safety best practices learned in the online training
  • Remain supportive and engaged with visitors
  • Provide accurate support using crisis intervention best practices
  • Work on research and administrative tasks relative to the Online Hotline


  • Applicable Majors: Counseling, Social Work, Women’s Studies, Mental Health, Public Heath, Psychology, Sociology, etc…
  • Able to work some nights and/or weekends from home
  • Exceptional communication skills both verbal & written
  • Computer proficiency including instant messaging is a must


  • Develop and enhance crisis intervention skill set
  • Learn best practices in the new field of online advocacy and intervention services
  • Provide a safe and secure place for victims of sexual assault and abuse
  • Flexible hours
