RAINN joined entertainment industry leaders to address women’s health-related issues at an event sponsored by the Entertainment Industries Council (EIC), in conjunction with the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). RAINN’s experts were able to provide advice and feedback to the creative community and media on how these women’s health issues should be depicted on screen and in the news.
Intimate partner violence was listed among the top health priorities affecting women today, along with reproductive health and cancer. Entertainment industry members from hit TV shows, “ER,” “Saving Grace,” and the “The Mentalist,” as well as representatives from MTV and BET, provided insight into the industry’s role in educating the public about these women’s health-related issues.
Among RAINN’s suggestions to the entertainment industry:
→ Enhance accurate portrayal of the victim/perpetrator relationship:
