February 4, 2009 – (Washington, DC) – RAINN is pleased to announce that Frederick Arnold has been elected chairperson of the organization’s board of directors. Arnold has served on RAINN’s board for three years, serving as chair of RAINN’s audit committee.
RAINN is the nation’s largest anti-sexual assault organization and was named one of “America’s 100 Best Charities” by Worth magazine. RAINN created and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline (800.656.HOPE) and the Online Hotline (rainn.org) in partnership with over 1,100 local rape crisis centers across the country. The hotlines have helped more than 1.2 million people since 1994. RAINN also carries out additional programs to help victims, to prevent sexual assault and to ensure that rapists are brought to justice.
“We are thrilled to have such an outstanding advocate as Fred serve as our board chair,” said Scott Berkowitz, president and founder of RAINN. “Fred’s experience, management and financial expertise, and strategic mind have already been of great value to RAINN, and he will play a vital role as we continue to grow the organization in order to keep up with the vast demand from victims of sexual assault. His dedication to RAINN is truly remarkable and we look forward to the progress we’ll make in the fight against sexual violence under his leadership of the board.”
Of his new role, Mr. Arnold said, “I am honored that Scott and the rest of the board have asked me to chair this already impressive organization, nationally recognized as the leading voice on issues related to sexual violence. I look forward to working with RAINN’s leadership team and supporters to further advance the fight against sexual violence, and continue to raise awareness about this very serious crime that affects one in six women and one in 33 men in our country.”
Mr. Arnold has had a distinguished career in international finance, both as a highly respected corporate advisor and more recently as chief financial officer at a series of private equity-owned portfolio companies.
Mr. Arnold’s financial and administrative positions include senior leadership roles at Masonite International and Willis Group, both at the time owned by Kohlberg, Kravis and Roberts. At Masonite, the largest manufacturer of doors in the world, Mr. Arnold served as chief financial officer, while at Willis he was both chief financial officer of Willis North America and chief administrative officer of the group.
Mr. Arnold joined Willis after 20 years as an investment banker working from both New York and London, primarily at Lehman Brothers and Smith Barney, where he was managing director and head of European corporate finance.
A native of White Plains, New York, Mr. Arnold graduated from Amherst College summa cum laude, earned law degrees from Oxford University (MA) and Yale University (JD), and is a member of the New York Bar.
In addition to his support of RAINN, Mr. Arnold’s other charitable efforts include advising small local companies on behalf of the New York City Investment Partnership and fundraising leadership activities for Amherst College.
