Pro Wrestler Mick Foley Finds His Next Opponent: Sexual Violence

Printer-friendly versionSend to friend

Former WWE champion Mick Foley (aka Mankind, Cactus Jack), isn’t a man accustomed to losing. Now he’s found a new enemy, one even tougher than The Rock, whom Mick beat to win his first world championship. He has teamed up with RAINN to take on sexual violence.

Mick, who has found a second career as a world champion writer (two of his books have made it to #1 on the New York Times best-seller list), stopped by RAINN’s office for lunch just before Christmas. In between pizza and firing up RAINN’s staff, he announced that he and his wife, Colette, plan to donate to RAINN 50% of the advance royalties from his upcoming memoir, “Countdown to Lockdown.”

Mick knows that money is crucial to RAINN’s ability to continue leading the national fight against sexual violence, and the Foleys’ generous donation will do a lot to help. But after coming to RAINN's office and meeting some of our dedicated volunteers, he became inspired to devote his time, too. He’s already started our training course to become an Online Hotline volunteer, where he’ll be able to help survivors one-by-one. And he’s lent his fame to the cause by doing media interviews to help us raise awareness and prevent rape.

He has also joined RAINN’s National Leadership Council, a small group of key supporters who have given their time and money to help RAINN eliminate sexual violence, and who, like Mick, have no intention of losing.
